As the title suggests I haven’t been writing much recently but now is the time to talk about Wildlife photographer of the year 2012 and making new friends.
Wildlife photographer of the year 2012
Well I was lucky enough to be short listed in the Wildlife photographer of the year 2012 and managed to get “Specially commended” in my age category. As you can imagine I was over the moon when I received the news my parents had been secretly hiding from me. The build up to the awards was exiting, I had a very busy schedule with events before and after the event such as nature live talks and Wild photos. We were all very exited when we were waiting outside of the museum and it was a bit like going to the Oscars as everyone was “dressed to impress”,black ties and all.
When the gates were opened we made our way up to the museum entrance where we where ushered into a long room , where I suddenly found my self in the presence of my ultimate heroes. From the ingenious Charlie Hamilton James to the awesome Gordon Buchanan, Rosemond Kidmand Cox quickly introduced my to Charlie who made me literally lose my words.
Then we went in to have our dinner under the great dinosaur where the guests from all over the world where waiting to see the winners and commended images.
After the dinner we were allowed to enter the exhibition and view our photos, I raced round to see my images. It was like a dream seeing my image next to world renowned photographers images.
Meeting new friends
It was great going to the exhibition but I really enjoyed meeting other photographers especially the young ones. I struck up a strong friendship between me and a fellow photographer, Owen Hearn. Before the awards there was a photographers meet where I met Owen, who like me was a little shy of meeting people and we then got chatting and that’s where our friendship started. Owen then went on to be announced Young wildlife photographer 2012 and well what can I say he was the most deserving winner you could think of and is the nicest guy you could ever meet. Can’t wait til we meet up again mate 🙂
